Tuesday Tips For Etsy Sellers

I’m assuming you’ve clicked on this post either because you’re a seller or want Ryu be! If you haven’t opened a shop yet and have been considering I say do it! The hardest part is starting and we just started this weekly tip series so if you’re interested in more info please follow blog!

Today’s topic is keywords or “tags”. Just like # on Instagram product tags are things you want to add to your listings to make it possible for people to find you.

Keyword Tips

#1 Use ALLLLL 13 tags.

Can’t think of 13? Ask a friend, type in synonyms, observe competition. Tags are what people use to find you so you want to use EVERY one.

#2 Avoid one word tags. Be descriptive.

Examples :

Instead of candle say… soy candle.

Instead of Pink say… Pink Bracelet

The Chances of someone just looking up “green” or “gifts” is very low not to mention an extremely broad subject. You want to come up in search for that person that is searching ‘Soy Wax Melts” because that person clearly knows what they want and are way more likely to buy.

#3 Don’t use repeat keywords.

Now this one gets a little confusing and there’s a lot of debate but this is what works for me.

You don’t want to have one keyword entirely in another.

Example : Candle as one tag and Soy Candle as another. That candle keyword just gets canceled out with it being with the other.

Butttt that doesn’t mean you can’t use candle twice. You just don’t want it on its own. Example: Handmade Candle, Soy Candle, and Pine Candle are all good Keywords to use because they target certain things a buyer may be looking for. Type, scent, color are all good things to include.

That brings us to #4

#4 Think Like a Buyer

How might you shop for a candle? Maybe you want a pink one to match your room. Maybe you want one that smells like coffee. Perhaps you’re looking for white pillar candles…

Cover everything a buyer might be looking for. I’ll use this as my example from my own shop.

These candles can be customized! You can choose scent and color. Tags like :

Custom Candle

Cheer up gifts

Gifts for her

Gifts for him

Choose Scent

Soy Candle

Are all good tags to use. But with something like my ready to ship candles I want to be more specific.

For this candle since it has a specific color, scent and theme I would want to use tags like…

Blue Candle

Soy Candle

Tropical Candle

Mermaid Gifts

Gifts For Her

Gifts Under 10

Etc

By having clear tags you are more likely to find a buyer that wants exactly what you’re selling!
